Our Journey
I write and I build with my hands, my heart, and my history.
I’m a real estate investor and restorer. I bring back to life salvaged treasures left for dead. But I also build people through work in nonprofits, youth programs, food banks, and wraparound services for families.
I hold an MBA and I am a writer. I write personal essays about family, faith, being a man, husband, and father, and sometimes write of how I defied God. My words have helped me communicate in ways I never could before.
For over ten years, I’ve worked with the Renewable Energy Coalition, where we advocate for small-scale renewable energy producers. I built their website, tracked avoided cost pricing across the Western US, and created systems that help our members thrive.
I’ve been a top-ranked banker, sales and service trainer, and sold 94 properties and over $19 million in real estate in one year. I’ve managed budgets, staff, volunteers, grants, and programs that served students from K-12th—with real academic results.
I am the last man in America without a tattoo.
I am the last man in America without Instagram.
I’m the son of a white man from Oklahoma who dedicated 30 years of his life to helping incarcerated men earn diplomas, degrees, and trade skills to survive on the outside. I’m the son of a Hispanic woman from California, who worked in the fields and was the first in her family to earn a Bachelor’s Degree. She's served as an addiction counselor and, in retirement, leads a Bible study in a women’s prison every Saturday night. My grandfather pastored churches from Muskogee, Oklahoma to Compton, California. He also ran a printing business and owned real estate. My papa, on my mom's side, picked tomatoes in the fields, was a painter, and helped organize painters into the union. In her 60s, my nana, twice a day, cleaned a laundromat to help support their family. I carry their legacy in everything I do.
I live at the intersection of my skills, passions, and the world's needs. I am a pastor to those who don’t believe in God, but want to. I am a pastor to those who left the church, didn’t want to leave God, but left both. Those who love their wife and children, but need help to do both better (rephrase this). The doubting, the disillusioned, and those done with Christians and organized religion.
I write for men, for husbands and fathers. And for the women who love them.
I’m married to a strong, gracious, wise, and beautiful woman who makes me better. We’re raising three kids—one with special needs—who have taught me more than any classroom or job ever could. They are the reason I write. They are the reason I build.
Our son, Sebastian, has transformed our perspective on the world. On day six of his life, he had a blood clot on the right side of his brain that led to a stroke. The result was cerebral palsy and epilepsy. And yet, he is strong, gritty, and compassionate. He is courageous. (better describe bash) Because of him, we live slower, truer, and better.
In 2022, we took a two-year sabbatical. We traveled the U.S., Ireland, and lived in Mexico. That season reshaped our family, deepened our faith, and rewrote what we thought life had to look like. (what should life look like?) It gave us memories and scars that shape how we love and live.
I believe my story and your story is not over until it’s good.
Men, if I can be a friend, a confidant, a source of hope, please call, text, or email me. I will respond.
